Pokemon Mix Up Machine

Another fun exercise I've done Today (16/12/2005) is for the word "ecology " on the official website of four oil companies. Companies are BP, Shell Spain, Repsol YPF and Cepsa .

I placed the little-used word "ecology" in the search engine of the respective pages and the only results I have been offered is Shell Spain, the other three did not provide any result ...
If we analyze the data obtained could find potential reasons. I can think of several: - Ecology is formed by the union of two words: "echo" - and - "logy". The word "Eco" comes from the Greek "oyko" meaning (among other things), "home", "purple" or "vital area." The word "Lodge" comes from the Greek "λογίa" and means "treaty", "studio", "science." Using a small trial with these two words get:

home-treated home-study-science home home-treated
home-study-science home-treated
vital area vital area vital area-study-science.

We reverse the order of words and obtain other interesting combinations ...

Now we're almost ready to give the logical response of the non-appearance of the word ecology in 3 of 4 sites visited. I can think of several scenarios, I hope we do not miss any:

1, Analyzing the possible combinations of words, the possible combinations provide more gloom about the meaning of the word ecology in modern times.

2 nd I think that none of the companies surveyed are from Greece, so it should not dominate the Greek language fluently.

3 The most used language in the time by modern companies is the English language
Germanic root. and the German language descended from the language spoken by the Goths ...

4 The word ecology written as " ecology" in the English language. We found slight differences in translating the word. 5 º

translating the German word to see a second alteration: Ökologie.

6 The content of pages viewed is in Castilian but possibly (I imagine) the search engine has conflicts by the use of many different languages: Castilian, English,
Greek, German, Gothic (Gothic Germanic). I've noticed that search engines on the Web fail because of a simple accent ...

seems that the root of the problem lies in the words with accent on the letter "i". This hypothesis is understandable if we ask a new search, but in this case a word with accent on the letter "a".

For the second experiment, I choose the word " pollution."
Imagine the result. Of the four three answered yes (Cepsa fail), than we can understand that, with the accent on the letter "a", no mistakes this motor.En one of four offers núltiples documents devoted to the word pollution.

further refine the hypothetical engine problem, we chose two words together now: environmental risk.

answer yes Now BP and Repsol YPF. We see that in the words chosen and 3 contain 3 ees ies. To see that we hit 50%, seems to lead to inefficiencies in the engine with those letters??
tested with "emergency ."

And all offer multiple answers. This confuses me, because I thought it failed because of the abundance of the letter "e" ...

I put something more elaborate: " emergency plan ."
I answer three multiple appearances and do not know. Is likely to fail because it sounds bad the word "emergency" to join the vowel of the first word with the first of the second and sounds strange.
With the phrase " evacuation plan ", it matches two of ellas.Se reaffirms my conviction of the previous experiment. To clear the doubts now plays something like " ecological accident." They are right now two confirmed the problem with the vowels "e", "I", "o".

I remember that to a reasonable sampling of the search engine would need at least 1% of the possible words. Other sources claim that an adequate statistical needs at least 5%
.

The road map in this case would be: look for words that are related to " ecology." In the words found
use a small percentage of them for my consultations, say 5% would be sufficient. Launching the consultation. Record results. Provide statistics on the data. And make a detailed analysis of the data.
...

for scientific rigor I have deliberately drawn the judgments in this little " approach." It would be unethical, offer opinions on a treaty intended to verify
some data. The conclusion can only be issued after a thorough analysis of the results and discarding all kinds of emotions, preconceptions, passions or mere assertions without any scientific basis
. The only drawback would be that my approach was wrong, but everyone knows that scientists (or those who pretend to be), and approaches need multiple tests to obtain accurate, reliable and conclusive. And if possible: Irrefutable.

conclude with several interesting phrases:

"I've often said, Watson, when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable it may seem, is the truth. But what happens when you can not eliminate the impossible? ". (Sherlock Holmes)

The second Carl Sagan:

El Mundo y sus demonios

"Again, the reason science works so well is part this mechanism built-in error correction. In science there are no forbidden questions, there are too sensitive or sensitive topics to be explored, there are no sacred truths. This openness to new ideas, coupled with more rigorous and skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, select the wheat from chaff. "

And of course the third of Jacques-Yves Cousteau:

" Future generations not forgive us for having wasted his last chance and your last chance is today. "
